Michael Cook
Chief of 2010 Census Media Relations Branch
Michael C. Cook, a branch chief in the Public Information Office, has been with the U.S. Census Bureau for 11 years. He is responsible for public affairs and media relations activities for the 2010 Census.
Cook previously served in the Communications Directorate as assistant branch chief of Customer Research and Marketing in the Customer Liaison and Marketing Services Office.
Cook began his career at the Census Bureau in 1999 as a marketing specialist during the 2000 Census. He has served as team leader for the Census Bureau exhibits program and a marketing specialist for the Foreign Trade Division. He was responsible for their marketing and outreach strategy to the U.S. foreign trade community.
Cook has provided consultation and marketing expertise to other areas of the Department of Commerce. He guided the International Trade Administration's United States and Foreign Commercial Service through business process improvement and strategic planning projects. He has also provided the International Trade Administration's Office of Public Affairs consultation and an integrated communications plan.
Cook has a vast background in program management and marketing with nonprofits, higher-education institutions and private sector organizations.
Cook earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and MBA from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He holds a master's certificate in project management from George Washington University and is a 2009 graduate of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Executive Leadership Development Program.
Born in Italy and raised on military bases worldwide, Cook currently resides in Odenton, Md., with his wife, Miesha.
