Paul Kern

Branch Chief, Travel and Tourism
Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA)

Paul Kern is chief of the information and business services branch in BEA's industry accounts directorate. Kern joined the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis in 2003 holding a number of management posts. In his current job, he oversees a staff of 10 that produces BEA's travel and tourism statistics as well as a host of other statistics. Kern's areas of expertise are tourism, transportation and finance.

Before joining BEA, Kern worked at the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for 15 years where he developed multifactor productivity measures for air transportation, rail transportation and other industries. While at BLS, Kern also trained hundreds of economists from other nations through the BLS International Technical Cooperation Program and taught them how to develop productivity measures for their own economies.
