Census Bureau to Brief Reporters on Census 2000 Supplementary Survey
**CENSUS BUREAU MEDIA ADVISORY**
The Commerce Department's Census Bureau will hold a technical briefing for the media to discuss and release on an embargoed basis the first results of the Census 2000 Supplementary Survey. The 700,000 household survey was conducted simultaneously with last year's census. The survey is designed to test the operational feasibility of collecting long form-type data independently of a decennial census. The initial data cover demographic, economic and housing characteristics for the country, 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Tuesday, July 31, 10:30 a.m. EDT
Nancy Gordon, associate director for demographic programs
Preston J. Waite, associate director for decennial census
