The U.S. Census Bureau will hold a news conference to release two reports: Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2005, containing findings from the Current Population Survey (CPS); and Income, Earnings, and Poverty Data from the 2005 American Community Survey (ACS). The CPS findings are national, while the ACS findings pertain to states, as well as counties and cities of 65,000 or more people. The ACS report also includes a comparison of earnings for men and women by selected characteristics, including industry and occupation.

There will be a live webcast of the news conference, accessible via the Census Bureau’s online news conference page. Windows Media Player or RealPlayer software (both versions are free downloads) is required to view the webcast. A test signal will be available beginning at 9:45 a.m. EDT on Aug. 29 to verify your computer is correctly set up to view the webcast. Only media attending the event will be able to ask questions of the speakers.

Media may dial in to a telephone “listen line” to hear the news conference live. The dial-in phone number is 1-877-777-1972 or 612-332-0632; no password is needed. The listen line may be accessed beginning at 9:45 a.m. EDT.

A live video broadcast of the news conference also will be available via satellite for free and unrestricted use by news organizations.

The Census Bureau will provide bus transportation for the media from downtown Washington, D.C. to Suitland Federal Center. The bus will depart from the National Press Club at 14th and F streets at 9 a.m. sharp on the day of the news conference; it will leave the Census Bureau for the return trip between 11:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. EDT. Photo identification is required for admission to the Census Bureau. Foreign nationals must contact the Census Bureau’s Public Information Office to obtain a special security clearance form. Please allow at least 30 minutes for security check-in, longer for broadcast media with equipment.
