Over the next six months, the U.S. Census Bureau will release a series of population estimates for the nation, states, counties and cities. These estimates measure population change since the 2010 Census using administrative records and survey data. The reference date for these estimates is July 1, 2011.
“We want to ensure that the American public has reliable statistics for even small jurisdictions every year,” Census Bureau Director Robert Groves said. “This will permit them to see if their hometown has changed since the 2010 Census, for example, to determine if there is any difference in the composition of their population by age, sex, race and ethnicity.”
In December, the Census Bureau released the first in this series of annual estimates — total population for the nation, states, and Puerto Rico. Estimates of the voting-age population by state were released Jan. 5. Below is a tentative schedule of the remaining population estimates releases for 2012:
April 5, 2012
May 17, 2012
June 2012
