Average Weekly Earnings Before and After Job Turnover

Table D shows the average weekly wages and salaries of adult workers, age 25 to 54, before a job separation and after a job accession in the 1990-92 period and 1987-89 period. Earnings for the 3.3 million men who left a full-time job and then re-entered one during the 1990-92 period dropped from $529 to $423--or 20 percent. In the 1987-89 period, however, the decline for a comparable group of men was not statistically significant.
