net international migration

The Population Estimates Program each year publishes international migration numbers for the U. S., states, counties, and metropolitan areas. In its simplest form, net international migration is defined as any movement across U.S. (50 states and District of Columbia) borders. The net international component c ombines three parts: (1) net migration of the foreign-born, (2) emigration of natives, and (3) net movement from Puerto Rico to the United States. Estimates of net international migration are derived using a variety of available data sources.
