Introduction

This document contains descriptions of all data tables (not imputation tables) for Census 2000 Summary Files 1, 2, and 3, which contain data on the older population. Many of the tables provide data for people 60 years and over by age groups, and many of these tables also have data for younger age groups. Other select tables provide median age and data for the nursing home population.

Each table description is numbered and contains a title that lists the variables shown in the table. Each title is followed by a number in brackets that represents a count of cells for that table. For example, the title for table P12 of Summary File 1 is as follows: "SEX BY AGE [49]". This table contains two sex categories cross-classified by 23 age categories. These 46 data lines with the addition of the total, total male, and total female line produce the total of 49 data cells. The table numbers for all population subjects summarized to the block level are preceded by a "P," and those summarized to the census tract level are preceded by "PCT." The table numbers for all housing subjects summarized to the block level are preceded by an "H," and those summarized to the census tract level are preceded by "HCT."

Below each table title is a description of the table's universe (e.g., people or occupied housing units), which is in turn followed by a listing of the data categories shown in the table.

Note that tables in Summary Files 1 and 3 marked as "[ITERATED BY RACE AND HISPANIC OR LATINO]" are available as iterated by the following categories:

All tables in Summary File 2 are iterated by 249 detailed population groups. For a complete list of these groups, see http://www.census.gov/prod/cen2000/doc/sf2.pdf.
