Profile America — Monday, June 8th. One of America’s all-time favorite celebrities will be 75 years old tomorrow. He’s short — both in stature and temper — and wears a sailor hat. Who else, but Donald Duck? One of Walt Disney’s classic creations, Donald stepped into the entertainment world in the 1934 cartoon, “The Wise Little Hen,” the first of 128 in which he was featured. Donald’s reverse charm lay in his tendency to fly into a squawking rage whenever things didn’t go just right. And his long-term living arrangements with his nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, was unusual for the day. Now, 16 percent of single parents are men, compared with 10 percent in 1970. Profile America is a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau, now preparing for the 2010 Census.
