Profile America — Saturday, October 3rd. Recently, the 40th anniversary of the unique musical gathering at Woodstock was celebrated. Today, in Wichita, Kansas, the Kansas Humane Society is staging its own unique event — called “Woofstock.” Some 15,000 animal lovers and their dogs are expected for a day of fun, including canine search and rescue demonstrations, and a 1.5 mile event called “Woof, Walk and Wag.” All proceeds support the Kansas Humane Society and the 22,000 pets it expects to receive this year. Across the U.S., more than 37 percent of households are home to dogs with an average of nearly two dogs each. That adds up to a total dog population of just over 72 million. Profile America is in its 13th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.
