Profile America — Saturday, October 17th. A baby girl born in Chicago three years ago today was most likely the nation’s 300th million resident. The event was predicted earlier in the week by the U.S. Census Bureau. The speed with which the U.S. population is increasing can be seen by realizing that the 200 millionth American was born just 39 years earlier, in 1967. The 100 million mark was passed sometime between the censuses of 1910 and 1920. When the first census was taken in 1790, federal marshals counted just under 4 million people. The 2010 Census, which will be taken starting next April 1, is expected to count some 310 million Americans. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, now preparing for the 2010 Census.
