Profile America — Sunday, October 25th. Women FBI agents are no longer a novelty — either in real life or on television. The first female agents graduated on this date in 1972. The women receiving their badges that day were Susan Lynn Roley and Joann Pierce. The movie “Feds” was based on the challenges these two women faced at the strict FBI Academy. The television series “The X-Files,” and “The Sopranos” also featured women agents. Today, there are about 3 million people working in protective service jobs, including criminal investigators, police officers and private detectives — just over 22 percent of them women. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at <www.census.gov>.
