A grandmother and her two grandchildren enjoy a hug in their living room. Census data showed that while 8 percent of Black and American Indian and Alaska Native grandparents lived with their grandchildren – more than half of these grandparents – 52 percent and 56 percent, respectively – were responsible for their care.
