The American Indian population (including American Indians and Alaska Natives) increased by 516,722 people or 26 percent between 1990 and 2000 – which was faster than the total U.S. population. The total U.S. population grew by 13 percent from 1990 to 2000. Photo U.S. Census Bureau.
