Health statistics are gathered for the National Center for Health Statistics and are used to give effective direction to health expenditures, both public and private, and to help plan programs to prevent and control certain illnesses and disabilities. These vital facts and figures aid government, businesses, industries, and health facilities in planning, program development, and research, in order to provide adequate health care services.
