National Crime and Victimization Survey (NCVS)

Purpose

The National Crime Victimization Survey collects detailed information about persons victimized by certain types of crime. These crimes include theft, burglary, motor vehicle theft, robbery, assault, rape, purse snatching, pocket picking, hate crimes, identity theft, vandalism, and school crimes to children between the ages of 12 through 18. The Census Bureau collects this information for the Bureau of Justice Statistics by using a supplement during normal data collection.

Interview Period 1st through the 30th of each month
Sample Size 780 addreses contacted each month
Coverage Area All of New England and upstate New York
Field Staff 40 Field Representatives and 11 Senior Field Representatives
