Our Region

Chicago is one of 12 regional offices. Chicago's geographically diverse region includes three states, which are Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, with a total of 266 counties (IL-102, IN-92, WI-72). We have 11 Indian Reservations and 39 Congressional Districts within our regional boundaries. The 1990 census population for our region was over 21 million, with Illinois ranking sixth in the United States in total population. The region has 31 Metropolitan Statistical Areas, 5 Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Areas, 18 Primary Metropolitan Areas, and approximately 2,428 Incorporated Places.
