Our Region

The Detroit Regional Office is responsible for field data collection and data dissemination across the states of Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and certain counties in Kentucky and Indiana. The region covers 121,830 square miles or 3.4% of the United States and includes:

  • Four major metropolitan areas (with populations greater than 1 million):
    Detroit, Michigan
    Cleveland, Ohio
    Columbus, Ohio
    Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Twenty-one MSAs and fourteen cities with a population of over 100,000.
  • An office staff of over 50 persons.
  • A field representative staff of over 400 persons.

According to Census 2000, the population of the Detroit region was 23,099,928 or 8.2% of the total U.S. population.
