Thanks
to our 897 partners in the District of Columbia, who helped
make Census 2000 a success.
District of Columbia
- The District of Columbia, our nation's capital,
had a population of 606,900 in 1990.
- Census 2000 figures show that the District
of Columbia's population decreased to 572,059 residents with
a 60% mail response rate.
- Census 2000 figures will determine the district's
annual share of more than $185 billion dollars for a decade
- money for schools, day care, health care, jobs, new businesses
and housing development. Every year for the next ten years,
our nation's capital city will use data from Census 2000 to
make well-informed critical decisions.
- Being undercounted means being underfunded!
Census 2000 gave us the chance to take a stand for what our
community needs. Residents in the District of Columbia chose
to make a difference, and responded to the census call at
a higher rate than anticipated.
