Thanks to our 2,584 Maryland partners, who helped make Census 2000 a success.

Maryland

  • The State of Maryland has 23 counties and 8 seats in the
    U. S. House of Representatives.

  • In 1990, Maryland had a mail response rate of 70% and a population of 4,780,753.

  • Census 2000 figures show that Maryland's population has grown to 5,296,486 residents and had a mail response rate of 69%. Significant population growth in the last decade means census data will be critical in planning for services and facilities.

  • Census 2000 information will shape the future of Maryland and its ability to meet the needs of its people. Census 2000 figures will determine Maryland's political representation in Congress and the state's annual share of more than $185 billion dollars for a decade of money for schools, day care, health care, jobs, new businesses and housing development.
