-H_EDASST-
(1) A Federal PELL grant is available to undergraduate students on
the basis of need. Student applies when entering school and
receives a notice of eligibility from the federal governmment.
(2) Assistance from the Department of Veterans' Affairs consists of
aid to veterans, the dependents and survivors of deceased or
disabled muitary personnel, or military personnel participating in
an educational assistance plan-sponsored by the federal government.
These programs include: GI Bill, Montgomery Bill, Post-Vietnam
Vocational Educational Assistance (or Veterans' Educational Assistance
Programs), Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance,
and the Armed Forces Vocational Rehabilitation Program.
(3) The College Work Study Program provides paid jobs for students
at least at minimum wage. The award is determined by the school's
financial aid office.
(4) Mark this category if the student receives aid from any other
FEDERAL program where the assistance does not have to be repaid
in dollars. This would include federal grants (such as SEOG,
Health or Nursing Grant, NSF Grant) and federal scholarship
programs (such as ROTC). Include federal programs where
money is received and repaid in the form of SERVICE. This includes
ROTC (military service) as well as programs where money is repaid
in the form of community service. Any federal programs where aid
is repaid monetarily should be marked in category 5 as loans.
(5) These loans may be taken out by the student or parents of the
student solely for the purpose of post-secondary education.
These loans include Stafford (GSL), Perkins (NDSL), and
Supplemental Loans for Students (SLS). These programs provide
low-interest loans strictly for post-secondary education. A home
equity loan should not be included in this category or any other
category. Do not include financial aid that is repaid in the form
of community service by the student.
(6) Mark this category only for grants, scholarships, and tuition
remission awarded and paid for by the school the student is
attending. These forms of assistance do not have to be repaid.
(7) A teaching or research assistantship is awarded by the school
as a paid job. This is a common form of assistance for
graduate students.
(8) These scholarships and grants are distributed from state funds
and are not repaid. Some examples are: Paul Douglas Teacher
Scholarship and the State Student Incentive Grant Pregrain.
(9) Mark this category if the student receives scholarships or grants
from a source other than the federal or state government or the
school attended. This assistance may come from a private
organization such as a corporation or foundation, a community
group (ex., Kiwanis or DAR), or other sources (ex., National
Honor Society or National Merit Scholarship).
(10) Mark this category if the person held a part-time or full-time
job during the school year (excluding College Work Study) or prior
to attending school, and the employer is paying any of the student's
educational expenses. If the person receives a scholarship from a
parent's employer, (9) should be marked.
(11) Mark this category only if the person reports receiving some kind
of educational financial assistance not listed above. Exclude direct
aid from parents including trust funds or college savings funds.
