Note 1: Statement of the Problem: - posted 10/16/2009
In the 2004 SIPP panel only a positive distribution from an unincorporated business or businesses for the reference period was included in the recode for monthly total personal earnings. While this impacted only very small number of individuals in the 2004 panel, it may have resulted in an over-estimation of the monthly total personal earnings for those individuals that reported having to absorb a negative distribution from their unincorporated business or businesses
Note 1: Resolution of the Problem:
Starting in Wave 1, and continuing through the duration of the 2008 SIPP panel, the definition of the recode variable for monthly total personal earnings (RPEARN) has been changed to include either a positive or negative distribution from an unincorporated business or businesses (PRFTB) during the reference period. This corrective action also makes the SIPP definition of total personal earnings more comparable with the recode variable of total personal earnings available from the Current Population Survey, Annual Social and Economic Supplement.
