2008 Panel Wave 1+ Health Insurance Core Children's Imputation Rates User Note

(posted 9/1/09)

In the 2008 Panel, as was the case for all prior SIPP Panels, children less than 15 years old are not interviewed directly. Information for children less than 15 years old comes from each child's guardian's record.

Allocation variables for health insurance are produced for ages 15 and older as described in the SIPP Users' Guide, "Chapter 4. Data Editing and Imputation." Thus for sample members younger than age 15, allocation variables will generally contain a default value of "0 = No imputation." This does not mean that no imputation has occurred in the production of this variable, but only that allocations have not been done directly on the child’s record. Data users are advised to only use allocation variables for the adult population (15+).
