Variable: EHEALPLA :
EHEALPLA
Employer-Provided Health Benefits Topical Module Variables
Does ...'s employer offer a health insurance plan to ANY of its employees?
-1 Not in universe
1 Yes
2 No
Universe: Persons age 15 and older. The person must be employed and either be uninsured or have insurance from another source.
Input variables: EMAX, EWKESR(EMAX), EHIMTH4, and EHEMPLY.
Statement of the problem:
For editing purposes, this variable uses the core variable "EHEMPLY."
In 1996, "EHEMPLY" was edited for only those people who had health insurance other than Medicaid / Medicare (EHIMTH = 1) in their own name (EHIOWNER = 1 or 3). If a person did not have this type of health insurance (EHIMTH) in their own name, he or she would not in the universe for EHEMPLY.
In 2001 we changed the universe for EHEMPLY and added all those who had EHIMTH = 1, irrespective of the ownership of the coverage. As a result of this change, several of the topical module variables, including EHEALPLA, were affected. During our editing in 2001, although we adjusted all the universes for the affected variables, missed this one (EHEALPLA) was inadvertently missed, therefore, some respondents were incorrectly out of universe for EHEALPLA.
Resolution:
We have rerun the data set. This file is on the SIPP FTP site and is dated 9/14/04.
