1996 Panel SIPP Wave 12 Assets and Liabilities Topical Module User Note

Statement of Problem:

There are three variables in the 1996 Panel Wave 12 Assets and Liabilities topical module whose years were not updated in the instrument. The variables are:

EALRY - Number of years the respondent contibuted to an IRA account.

EALKY - Number of years the respondent contibuted to a KEOGH account.

EALTY - Number of years the respondent contibuted to a 401K or Thrift plans.

For variables EALRY and EALKY, the instrument only collected information for up to 27 years instead of 28. For variable EALTY, the instrument only collected information for up to 19 years instead of 20.

Resolution of Problem:

The data for these variables will remain as originally collected:

EALRY - Less than or equal to 27 years,

EALKY - Less than or equal to 27 years,

EALTY - Less than or equal to 19 years.
