In Wave 9 of the 1996 Panel, the variables TCARVAL1, TCARVAL2 and TCARVAL3, which indicate a vehicle's dollar value based on year, make, and model, were, in some cases, assigned incorrect values. These variables were also components of the recodes THHVEHCL, THHTWLTH, and THHTNW.
Resolution of Problem 1:An updated 1996 Panel Wave 9 Real Estate and Shelter Cost Topical Module file was released on FERRET, and TCARVAL1, TCARVAL2 and TCARVAL3 values were adjusted to correct for this error. The recodes THHVEHCL, THHTWLTH, and THHTNW were also adjusted.
Statement of Problem 2:The recode variables THHTNW, THHTWLTH, THHBEQ, THHDEBT, and THHSCDBT, located within the Real Estate and Shelter Cost Topical Module were, in some cases, impacted by the re-running of the 1996 Panel Wave 9 Value of Business Topical Module. (Refer to Problem 1 of the 1996 Panel Wave 9 Value of Business User Note for details.)
Resolution of Problem 2:An updated 1996 Panel Wave 9 Value of Business Topical Module was released on FERRET. Because some Value of Business Topical Module variables were components of the recode variables THHTNW, THHTWLTH, THHBEQ, THHDEBT and/or THHSCDBT, an updated 1996 Panel Wave 9 Real Estate and Shelter Cost Topical Module was also released on FERRET. The recode variables were adjusted accordingly.
