Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q:
How often is a new sample selected for the advance survey?
A: A new sample is selected for the advance
survey every two-and-a-half to three years.
Q:
Did you also re-select the preliminary sample?
A: No, the larger preliminary sample
is re-selected once every five years to reflect the results of the most recent
Census of Retail Trade. The current preliminary sample was introduced in April
2001.
Q:
Why do you re-select the advance sample more frequently than the preliminary
sample?
A: The advance sample is re-selected
more frequently to reduce the reporting burden on the small and medium sized
companies, as well as to keep the advance sample as up-to-date with the preliminary
sample as possible.
Q:
Does the introduction of the new sample revise the historic estimates?
A: No, since the historic estimates are
obtained from the preliminary sample, this has no impact on the previously published
estimates.
