Our disclosure avoidance research for the 2030 Census focuses on designing and improving the statistical safeguards we'll use to protect the confidentiality of the public's census responses. These safeguards, which we call disclosure avoidance, are critically important in helping us meet our confidentiality obligations under Title 13, while also ensuring the quality and usability of the statistical products we publish.
Through this research, we are evaluating disclosure avoidance systems based on how well they address a set of universal principles that focus on system efficiency, effectiveness, and flexibility.
This research is organized into five parallel areas, which you can learn more about in this explorer.

Disclosure avoidance research is conducted as part of the broader 2030 Census research agenda, therefore not included in the Enhancement Areas (EA). Enhancement Areas refer specifically to the five focus areas that guide the research identifying and testing potential improvements for 2030 Census operations.
