The annual population and housing unit estimates are released on a flow basis throughout the year, beginning with the national and state total estimates release in December and ending with the release of population estimates for the nation, states, and counties by demographic characteristics during the following summer.
The latest full vintage available is the Vintage 2023 estimates series. This series is developed from a base that integrates the 2020 Census, Vintage 2020 estimates, and 2020 Demographic Analysis estimates. For population estimates methodology statements, see https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/technical-documentation/methodology.html.
The 2010 to 2020 Intercensal Estimates are the official estimates for the 2010-2020 decade. The first set of 2010-2020 Intercensals Estimates were released Fall 2024. The detail featured in this release included total resident population estimates for the nation, states, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, counties, Puerto Rico Commonwealth, Puerto Rico municipios, incorporated places, and minor civil divisions; as well as housing unit estimates for the nation, states, and counties. They are produced by modifying the Vintage 2020 estimates to account for differences between these estimates and the results of the 2020 Census. The result is a consistent time series from the 2010 Census to the 2020 Census. For more information on the Intercensal Estimates, please see the 2010-2020 Methodology Statement. Intercensal estimates by demographic characteristics for selected geographies will become available in Fall 2025 (specific timeline for release forthcoming).
