David M. Pemberton
Historian, U.S. Census Bureau
David M. Pemberton joined the Census Bureau's History Staff in 1985. He was an editor and coauthor of the histories of the 1980, 1990, and 2000 decennial censuses and has published articles on various aspects of U.S. census taking. He also manages the Census Bureau's oral history program. He received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in modern European history and has taught American and European history in colleges and universities in New Jersey, North Carolina, and Washington, DC.
