Stacy Gimbel Vidal

Chief, Media Relations Branch

Stacy Gimbel Vidal, who has been with the U.S. Census Bureau since 2006, is chief of the Public Information Office’s Media Relations Branch. Vidal leads a team of public affairs and information professionals responsible for cultivating relationships with the media and planning, implementing and evaluating media outreach activities for the Census Bureau.

Vidal previously served as an assistant branch chief for American Community Survey media relations and has overseen the media relations strategy for the release of statistical products from the 2010 Census.

Vidal began her career at the Census Bureau by assisting with communications efforts for a 2006 test of the 2010 Census, the full implementation of the American Community Survey and the release of a special statistical product for the Gulf Coast areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

In her six years in the Public Information Office, Vidal has worked with hundreds of national, regional and local media contacts, assisting them with finding and understanding Census Bureau statistics and current topics. She has developed and conducted training and webinars on accessing Census Bureau statistics for members of the National Press Club, Investigative Reporters and Editors, and journalism students. She has also coordinated a series of talking points for use across the agency and has coordinated numerous news conferences and audio news briefings.

Vidal holds bachelor’s degrees in public relations and finance from the University of Florida. She obtained a master’s certificate in project management. She also participated in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Aspiring Leaders Development Program.

The Florida native lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband, Phil.
