Quarterly Financial Report for Manufacturing, Mining, and Trade Corporations


NOTICE TO USERS OF QFR DATA
The Census Bureau recently identified a processing error which affected some 2007Q4 Manufacturing not-seasonally-adjusted data values in the 2007Q4 press release for the Quarterly Financial Report (QFR). The error also affected the calculation of some percent changes in Summary Tables A, B, and C of the 2007Q4 QFR publication. The 2007Q4 press release and the summary tables in the publication have been corrected and were reissued on April 9, 2008.

Presents up-to-date aggregate statistics on the financial position of U.S. corporations. Based upon an extensive sample survey, the report presents estimated statements of income and retained earnings, balance sheets, and related financial and operating ratios for the domestic operations of all manufacturing corporations with assets over $250,000, and corporations in the mining and trade areas with assets over $50 million. Data are classified by industry and by asset size. The report provides data, when possible, on distortions in comparability owing to changes in accounting conventions or user needs.

Beginning with the Fourth Quarter 2007 publication, the format for the Quarterly Financial Report Summary and Financial tables has changed to improve readability for users. The new format provides table title and line item descriptions on every page and re-sequences the order of the tables. However, the data line items presented within the tables have not changed. The Third Quarter 2007 publication is presented in both the old and new formats, for comparison.
