Census Bureau's API Updated with 2013 ACS (1-yr) and New Features

The Census Bureau has updated the application programming interface (API) with profiles and summary files from the 2013 American Community Survey 1-year estimates. The American Community Survey gives communities the current information they need to plan investments and services. Retailers, homebuilders, police departments, and town and city planners are among the many private- and public-sector decision makers who count on these annual results.

 

New Subjects Included

Additionally, There are new subjects being released in ACS, and modifications to existing products:

Some of highly notable additions include:

Poverty
  • One new Detailed Table (B17020) accounts for various age breakdowns by poverty status. The new breakdowns include: Under 6 Years, 6 to 11 Years, 12 to 17 Years, 18 to 59 Years, 60 to 74 Years, 75 to 84 Years, and 85 Years and Over.
Computer and Internet
  • Computer ownership and Internet use are new topics in the 2013 ACS 1-year data products.
  • There are 20 new Detailed Tables available from these questions. Computer ownership and internet use also are added to the Data Profiles (DP02, DP02PR).
