The National Processing Center in Jeffersonville, IN, manages one unified telephone center, located in three geographically dispersed locations: Jeffersonville, Indiana; Hagerstown, Maryland; and Tucson, Arizona. Each telephone center employs mostly part-time or intermittent telephone interviewers. The Jeffersonville site is the largest location, employing approximately 500 telephone interviewers. Each of the other two sites employs approximately 200 telephone interviewers.
Employees at the telephone centers support the censuses and surveys conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. For example, the Hagerstown, MD, center makes about 123,000 calls a month to complete employment and crime surveys, as well as the American Community Survey.
