The October 2025 release for Advance Monthly Sales for Retail and Food Services and the September 2025 release for Monthly Retail Trade and Food Services, originally scheduled for November 14, 2025, have been rescheduled for release on December 16, 2025. The Third Quarter 2025 release for Quarterly Retail E-Commerce Sales, originally scheduled for November 18, 2025, has been rescheduled for release on December 18, 2025.

Overview

The Advance Monthly and Monthly Retail Trade Surveys (MARTS and MRTS), the Annual Retail Trade Survey (ARTS), and the Quarterly E-Commerce Report work together to produce the most comprehensive data available on retail economic activity in the United States.

  1. Sign-in with the username and password provided in your letter or email at https://respond.census.gov/mrts.
  2. Report by clicking the “Login” button. You can return to your account over multiple sessions to complete.
  3. For assistance completing this survey, please call the customer help line at 1-800-772-7852, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time or log-in to the Secure Messaging Center.

There are two types of worksheets used. Companies which report for multiple EINs can use the reference worksheets with an 'A' in the label. Companies reporting for a single EIN can use the reference worksheet with an 'E'. The data that is used as input for the Quarterly Retail E-Commerce Sales release is collected as part of the Monthly Retail Trade Survey (MRTS).

Authority

Title 13 United States Code (U.S.C.),Sections 131 and 182 authorizes the Census Bureau to conduct this collection and to request your voluntary assistance.



Survey Legitimacy

Below are a few common items you can use to verify the legitimacy of this survey:

  1. Ensure the Web address provided in the letter is a "census.gov" domain.
  2. Correspondence sent in the form of a letter or email will contain reporting instructions and a phone number for survey assistance.
  3. On the log-in screen, a warning message should be present stating the respondent is accessing a U.S. Government computer network.
  4. Additionally, the upper right corner of the page should display the OMB eight-digit number and expiration date. This number indicates that the OMB has approved the survey and has confirmed there is a need to collect the information. The bottom of the log-in screen should have a link for the “Burden Statement” which also contains the OMB eight-digit number.
