New orders for manufactured durable goods in December, down two of the last three months, decreased $4.6 billion or 1.4 percent to $319.6 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This followed a 5.4 percent November increase. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.9 percent. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 2.5 percent. Transportation equipment, also down two of the last three months, drove the decrease, $6.4 billion or 5.3 percent to $113.5 billion.
