How to Apply to a 2026 Census Test Job

Step 1. Gather information

Before you begin, please gather the following information that is required for your application. Without this information, you will not be able to apply.

Step 2. Create an account

  • You must provide your full legal name.
  • A valid email address that you have access to. (The email address will be validated via a verification code sent to the email address provided.)
  • A telephone number.
  • Create a password that contains at least fifteen (15) non-blank characters. Characters must meet at least three (3) of the following four (4) categories:
    • English upper-case characters (A-Z)
    • English lower-case characters (a-z)
    • Base 10 digits (0-9)
    • Non-Alphanumeric (e.g. !, $, #)

Step 3. Complete online job application and assessment questions

  • Complete the online job application. This will take about 15 minutes.
  • Complete the assessment questions about your education, work, and other experience. This will take about 10 minutes. See example assessment questions below.
  • For supervisory positions, respond to the additional assessment questions. This will take about 15 minutes.

Please note there are a limited number of supervisory positions.

Example Assessment Questions

The assessment questions in the online application will ask you to describe your education, work, and other experience that relates to successful job performance.

The non-supervisory job assessment includes questions like the following examples.

Example 1

My previous supervisors (or teachers, if not previously employed) would likely describe my self-discipline as:

A.    Superior
B.    Above Average
C.    Average
D.    Below Average
E.    Do not know

Example 2

I dislike being the center of attention.

A.    Mostly true
B.    Mostly false
