2017 NAICS Sector 23- Construction

Below are the data released in the 2017 Economic Census for Construction.  All data are available as formatted tables on data.census.gov and downloadable csv files on the census FTP site.

Geographic Area Statistics

As part of the ECNBASIC Dataset, Geographic Area Statistics provide summary statistics by geographic area for establishments and firms with paid employees.  Data are shown on the 2017 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) basis.  State data will be released on a flow basis starting in January 2020; see the 2017 Release Schedules for more information.

Product Statistics

The 2017 Economic Census has produced detailed data for the first time using the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS).   Users now have the opportunity to compare data by  both NAICS and NAPCS code.  The data will be available at the national level and, for selected sectors, at the state level.

Establishment and Firm Size Statistics

The economic census produces detailed statistics on the size of establishments and firms for every sector except Management of Companies and Enterprises (55). All data are available at the national level and includes only establishments and firms with payroll. Content includes statistics by employment and sales, value of shipments, or revenue size for establishments and firms; single unit and multiunit firms; concentration of largest firms; and legal form of organization.

Core Business Statistics

Core Business Statistics include data on Franchise businesses along with Comparative and Bridge reports. The Bridge report only contains selected sectors - Mining, Quarrying, and Oil and Gas Extraction (NAICS 21), Manufacturing (31), Retail Trade (44), Information (51), Real Estate and Rental and Leasing (53), Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services (54).
