Celebrating Census Bureau Employees During Public Service Recognition Week

Written by:

One of the most rewarding roles is that of being a public servant. It puts a smile on my face each morning. There’s nothing better than knowing your work literally helps our great nation, our fellow Americans. That’s why I am excited about this week in particular. Why? Because it’s Public Service Recognition Week!

Happy Public Service Recognition Week to all my fellow U.S. Census Bureau employees! During the first full week of May, we have the opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of dedicated public servants like yourselves who work tirelessly on behalf of all Americans.

Throughout the nation, we who have chosen public service careers are working to make life better for all of us. That’s certainly true of all employees of the Census Bureau. Our work has far-reaching effects on so many aspects of American life. It’s foundational to our democratic system of government and is instrumental to the distribution of trillions upon trillions of dollars in federal funds to local, state, and tribal governments each decade. Our data inform how states and communities can help expand local economies, address public health issues, identify community needs, and improve education, transportation, and much more.

Census Bureau employees work diligently to better serve the American public. Every day, we collect survey data from respondents at their homes through door-to-door visits; process and analyze data; communicate findings to the public; and handle the critical support functions that enable us to accomplish our mission. The data that we collect and produce are a national asset, a genuine treasure.

This week and every day, we celebrate our dedication, hard work, and public service. I am sincerely grateful for your efforts and am honored to serve alongside you. Every person working at the Census Bureau deserves to be proud of their contributions.
