The U.S. Census Bureau conducts more than 100 surveys each year, including our nation’s largest household survey, the American Community Survey. The top 5 household surveys are listed below. American Community Survey (ACS)
An ongoing survey that provides data every year -- giving communities the current information they need to plan investments and services.


American Housing Survey (AHS)
The AHS is sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.


American Time Use Survey (ATUS)
Data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau. Statistics released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.


Ask U.S. Panel Pilot
The Ask U.S. Panel pilot invites households to participate in an initiative to improve the ways the federal government collects information from the public.


Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Study (BTLS)
This longitudinal study will permit a better understanding of the impact that different life events have on teachers’ careers.


Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE)
Data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau. Statistics released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.


Current Population Survey (CPS)
Data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau. Statistics released by the U. S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.


Decennial Census of Population and Housing
The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States. It is mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution and takes place every 10 years.


Household Pulse Survey (COVID-19)
The new Household Pulse Survey is designed to deploy quickly, and efficiently collect data on how people’s lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.


Housing Vacancy Survey (HVS)
Provides current information on the rental and homeowner vacancy rates, and characteristics of units available for occupancy.

National Survey of College Graduates (NSCG)

National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation (FHWAR)
Provides information on individuals involved in fishing, hunting, & other wildlife-associated recreation, such as wildlife observation, photography, & feeding.


National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS)

National Training, Education, and Workforce Survey (NTEWS)
Provides information on the education and work credentials of adults with a special focus on the skilled technical workforce.


Police Public Contact Survey (PPCS)

Principal Follow-Up Survey (PFS)
The purpose of the Principal Follow-up Survey (PFS) is to determine how many principals in the base (NTPS) school year still work as a principal.

Puerto Rico Community Survey
Provides data every year -- giving communities the information they need to manage change. Part of the American Community Survey, customized for Puerto Rico.


School Crime Supplement (SCS)
Data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau. Statistics released by the National Center for Education Statistics.


School Pulse Panel
The School Pulse Panel collects extensive data on issues concerning the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students and staff in U.S. schools.


School Survey on Crime and Safety (SSOCS)
Data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau. Statistics released by the National Center for Education Statistics.


Special Census Program
A basic enumeration of population, housing units, group quarters and transitory locations conducted by the Census Bureau at the request of a governmental unit.


Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP)
