1960 Census: Population, Supplementary Reports: Social and Economic Characteristics, for Puerto Rico

This report consists of preprints of tables 35, 36, 41, 42, and 52-56 (or portions thereof) from Final Report PC(l)-53C; and preprints of tables 73, 75, 77, 81, 94, 96, and 119 (or portions thereof) from Final Report PC(l)-53D.

Among the subjects covered in this report are place of birth, residence in 1955, school enrollment, educational attainment, literacy, ability to speak English, fertility, employment status, occupation, industry, income, place of work, and means of transportation. More detailed information on these and other subjects appear in the two final reports from which the tables shown here have been excerpted.

The tables are presented in two sections; the first relates to demographic and social statistics and appears on pages 5 to 10, the second relates to economic statistics and appears on pages 11 to 16. The tables are numbered and shown as they appear in the final reports except that, where the table has been truncated for reproduction here, the extraneous words in the original title (for example, urban and rural) have been lined out. A listing of the tables is presented on page 4.

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate.
