1970 Census of Population, Subject Reports: School Enrollment

Report Number PC(2)-5A

This report presents detailed statistics for the United States and regions on school enrollment of the population 3 to 49 years old classified by various demographic, social, and economic characteristics. The statistics are based on the 1970 Census of Population.

The text consists of an introduction and Appendices A through E, which appear after the tables.

Content of the Tables

The tables in this report provide information on three major topics of school enrollment:

  • relative progress in school (Tables 1-9, 12)
  • characteristics of college students (Tables 10, 11, and 13),
  • characteristics of persons 16 to 24 years old not enrolled in school (Tables 14 through 17)

Tables A-1 through A-8 present information on the number and percent of allocations for nonresponse on year of enrollment and enrolliment status (see Appendix D for information on allocation procedures). National figures are shown in all of the tables, and statistics for region and for urban and rural areas are included in many of the tables.

Sample size. The statistics in this report are based on a sample inflated to represent the total population. All tables are based on the 15-percent sample except table 13 which is based on the 5-percent sample (see "Data Collection Procedures" in Appenidix A for a 'description of the samples).
