1970 Census of Population, Supplementary Report: Graphic Summary of the 1970 Population Census

This report presents 78 maps and charts excerpted from two 1970 Population Census final reports.

Figures 1 to 42 (shown on pages 5 to 36) are based on 100-percent data and are from report PC(1)-A1, Number of Inhabitants, "United States Summary."

Figures 43 to 78 (shown on pages 343 to 358) are based on sample data and are from report PC(1)-C1,General Social and Economic Characteristics, "United States Summary.''

The statistics on which these maps and charts are based appear in the respective reports, which also contain definitions and technical explanations for the subjects covered here, as well as general information on 1970 Census procedures.


A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate.
