Families Maintained by Female Householders: 1970-79

This report presents a compilation of data describing changes in families maintained by women with no husband present. Included is information relating to characteristics such as race, Spanish origin, number and age of children, place of residence, marital status, education, employment status, occupation, mobility, and income. Most of the data are from the Current Population Survey.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate.
