Perspectives on Migration Analysis

Report Number P23-166

Overview

Explores, in three papers by different authors, the difficulties in working with data based on different migration periods. One paper offers a proposal for overcoming those difficulties as well as for measuring repeat migration.

Another paper analyses the use of data from the Bureau's longitudinal Survey of Income and Program Participation. The final paper presents a multiple data source approach for estimating annual State-to-State migration flows. A detailed table presents estimates of the number of persons migrating between individual States from 1985 to 1986.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
