The U.S. Census Bureau produces the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Tabulation as a custom tabulation at the direction of several federal agencies to support the enforcement of employment discrimination laws. This package of tables is the primary measure of race, ethnicity, and sex composition of the nation’s labor force. The tables in the package serve as benchmarks between an employing organization’s internal workforce and the corresponding external labor market. The tabulation is also used to develop affirmative action plans and to measure the effects of antidiscrimination laws.
The purpose of this technical report is to offer a single point of reference for all users of the EEO Tabulation. It provides a brief historical background a description of the dataset (including variables and geographies), an explanation of the tables, where to access the tabulation, and hands-on examples for data users.
