Written by:
Working Paper Number SEHSD-WP2021-01

There are pronounced racial disparities in the nationwide impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. This paper investigates how these racial disparities vary across the country. Using the Census Numident to predict monthly all-cause mortality for April 2020 for seven race categories, nationally and for each U.S. state, the paper finds that racial disparities in the initial impact of the pandemic on mortality varied substantially across states.
