Congressional District Summary File for 116th Congress Released

Press Release Number CB19-TPS.40

SEPT. 5, 2019 — The U.S. Census Bureau updated the 2010 Census Congressional District Summary File for the 116th Congress (Jan. 3, 2019 – Jan. 3, 2021). The updated file contains 2010 Census statistics for the 116th congressional district boundaries.

Population items include sex, age, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household relationship, household type, household size, family type, family size and group quarters. Housing items include occupancy status, vacancy status and tenure (whether a housing unit is owner-occupied or renter-occupied).

The file contains content identical to that shown in the 2010 Census Summary File 1 (SF 1), with the exclusion of tables originally produced at the tract level or above (PCT, HCT, and PCO tables). This change was necessary to ensure that data tables comply with the Census Bureau’s current disclosure avoidance policies.

The file provides data for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico; congressional districts; and selected geographic entities within the congressional districts. Also provided are selected counties, county subdivisions, census tracts, places, American Indian and Alaska Native areas, and Hawaiian home lands.

The release of the 2018 American Community Survey statistics in September 2019 will also provide data for the 116th Congress. Differences between the American Community Survey statistics and the 2010 Census counts could be attributed to demographic changes since 2010 (births, deaths and migration), survey methodology, data collection differences, and population controls, along with other possible factors. For more information on this topic, please visit ACS and Census Table Comparison reference materials.

You can find more information on congressional districts by visiting My Congressional District, the national map, and through the redistricting data website. Tabulations for the 116th Congressional District data file are available on data.census.gov or on the 2010 Census 116th Congress FTP directory.
