Census Bureau Announces New Members to Census Scientific Advisory Committee

SEPT. 7, 2021 — The U.S. Census Bureau named three new members to the Census Bureau's Census Scientific Advisory Committee (CSAC). The committee provides advice on the design, operation and implementation of Census Bureau programs. New members will serve a 3-year term.

The new CSAC members are:

  • Barbara Entwisle, Ph.D., Kenan Distinguished Professor of Sociology Fellow of the Carolina Population Center (CPC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • Lance Waller, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University
  • Lester Mackey, Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research

The Census Bureau is set to host the CSAC Virtual Meeting Sept. 23-24. Experts and representatives of various organizations from across the nation will attend the virtual meeting to discuss census programs, operations and innovative processes.

The Census Bureau Advisory Committee Branch is taking nominations to fill CSAC membership vacancies until Sept. 30. The purpose of the CSAC is to provide advice to the director on the full range of Census Bureau programs and activities including communications, decennial, demographic, economic, field operations, geographic, information technology and statistics.
