Census Bureau Announces New Leadership and Members to National Advisory Committee

APRIL 11, 2023 — The U.S. Census Bureau today announced the appointment of Cherokee Bradley to chair, Carol Hafford to vice-chair and six new members to its National Advisory Committee (NAC). The NAC considers topics such as hard-to-reach populations, race and ethnicity, language, aging populations, American Indian and Alaska Native tribal considerations, new immigrant populations, populations affected by natural disasters, highly mobile and migrant populations, complex households, rural populations and population segments with limited access to technology. The Committee also advises on data privacy and confidentiality, among other issues.

The new NAC members are:

  • Germine H. Awad, university diversity and social transformation professor of psychology, University of Michigan.
  • Mark Hugo Lopez, director of race and ethnicity research, Pew Research Center.
  • Richard Pan, pediatrician and former California State Senator
  • Tracy Rouleau, president and founder of TBD Economics, LLC.
  • Marlene Sallo, executive director, National Disability Rights Network.
  • Nicholas Vargas, incoming associate professor of Chicanx/Latinx Studies in department of ethnic studies, University of California, Berkeley.
